WHERE Shih Tzu's RULE!!

Shih Tzu's are an ancient breed(over 1,000 years old) and highly prized for companionship. They are for the most part a healthy breed with a non combative temperament. This makes them exellent companions for anyone, especially if you want more than ONE!!

QUALITY ISN'T EXPENSIVE..... IT'S PRICELESS!!

Shih Tzu (pronunced Sheed zoo) are in the toy group. And toys they are fun, loving and peaceful. They get along well with others. They are thought to have come from China with a Tibet connection. It is interesting that Shih Tzu means lion in the region they came from and lion symbolized royalty, strength and bravery--fearless, act quickly, While that fits their personality it is hard for me to picture these little loving dogs as a fearless roaring lion.

They should stand at about 11 inches at the withers with average weight 10 to 15 lbs. They should be bult to be sturdy, lively, loving toy dogs with a long flowing double coat that comes in a variety of colors. Their size is perfect for lap companion or apartment dwelling. But it is they loving temperament make them excellent pets for the elderly who just want a lap dog. Unlike the terrior breeds they are very social so having several is not a problem.

They are thought to be a cross between the Lhaso Apso and the Pekingese and some believe they have a little pug was thrown into the mix.. Their life expectance is 10 to 18 years and should weigh in the 10 to 15 pound range.

They are confident, outgoing and naturally friendly, bred to be loving companions, easy to train, wellllll except when they hit a little stubborn streak. Don't fear it quickly disappeaers when a treat comes out. They prefer to be a lap dog, but can romp and play as they keep you laughing at their antics. If you like color then Shih Tzu will give you color as they come in 19 different color combinations. Don't be surprised as they grow up that the coat changes color. Not always, but definitely can change depending on genetics. Solid colors are more rare as most will have a combinaiton of one or two different colors and white.

It is very hard to resist that precious Shih Tzu face with those inquisitive eyes looking back at you. Because of their short faces they do not tolerate heat well so prefer to stay inside in air conditioning during the heat of the day. They are a good choice for those with allergies as they do not shed much if brushed daily..

If you prefer maintance free then take them to groomer every 6 to 8 weeks and have them shaved. Otherwise spend a few minutes each day brushing out that beautiful long flowing coat. For more info on this loving, playful little breed visit https://shihtzu.org/about_our_breed.

To help you in your search for the right breeder and companion you should read the breed standard to make sure your puppies falls within this range. Smaller is not better as the smaller you breed a dog the more health issues you can have. They beocme more nervous and anxious also. The standard is written to give you guidelines on the best of any breed. See the link below to read the standard for the Shih Tzu:
